Miss C and Morah Mimi

This week, we introduced the story of Pesach with Morah Mimi, learning about the struggles of the Jewish people in Mitzraim (Egypt) and the hardships they faced under Paroh. We focused on key themes in a way that helps the children begin to learn about the holiday.

We are also encouraging artistic expression, filling the classroom with as much of the children’s artwork as possible. This allows them to creatively engage with what they are learning and express themselves in new ways.

During circle time, we introduced new subjects, including discussions about the weather and our feelings. Each student has the opportunity to share how they feel by pointing to an emotion, leading to meaningful conversations before we go outside for our first recess.

The children love the story of Pesach and are excited about the activities we have planned in the coming weeks.

Shabbat Shalom and Happy Friday!

Miss C 2's Class

Dear Parents,

This week, we embraced the spirit of Purim through stories, songs, and hands-on activities. The children enjoyed reading books about the holiday and learning its songs, bringing the joy of Purim into our classrooms.

With the rainy weather, we focused on fine motor skills and patience, using the time indoors to create special Purim arts and crafts that we’re excited to send home. The children also made mishloach manot and shared their handmade gifts with one another, practicing kindness and generosity.

Wishing you all a happy Purim and Shabbat Shalom!

Best,

Miss C

Dear Parents,

We are entering such an exciting time in our classroom as we prepare for Purim! The children have been actively engaged in a variety of hands-on activities that encourage sensory exploration and fine motor development. They have been busy creating their own graggers, designing masks using paper plate art, and experimenting with different textures like felt and parchment paper to enhance their sensory experiences.

In addition to our Purim festivities, we have also been learning about different types of weather—from cold and cloudy to rainy, sunny, dry, and hot. The children are becoming more aware of their surroundings and how the weather can change each day!

We are looking forward to all the fun ahead as we continue to explore, create, and celebrate together. Thank you for your continued support—we can’t wait to share more of our learning adventures with you!

All the Best,

Miss C & Morah Mimi - 2's Class

Hello Parents!

This week in our two-year-old preschool classroom, we focused on developing fine motor skills and enhancing sensory processing through engaging, hands-on activities. Our little learners explored tactile discrimination and hand-eye coordination by using rice bins and salt bins, carefully picking out objects one by one. This not only strengthened their pincer grasp but also encouraged focused attention and cognitive flexibility as they searched for different textures and shapes.

Outdoor play was a big hit, with favorites like Duck, Duck, Goose helping to build social-emotional awareness, impulse control, and gross motor development. We’ve also introduced daily calm-down yoga and a dance party at the end of each day, allowing the children to self-regulate, express emotions through movement, and release built-up energy before heading home.

Our classroom is centered around leading with love, and we continue to reinforce kindness, patience, and respect among our students. As we embrace the season, we’ve begun decorating for Purim! The children created beautiful art and coloring projects, which are now proudly displayed around the room.

Thank you for your continued support, we love watching your little ones grow!

Dear Parents,

We have completed our second week together as a class with Miss C, Miss Mary Lou, and Morah Mimi, and we are delighted to share the wonderful experiences your children have had.

This week, our focus was on fine motor development and hands-on exploration. We took another tour around the school, allowing the children to further familiarize themselves with their learning environment. A highlight of our week was visiting the koi pond in the front office, where the children had the opportunity to watch the koi fish being fed —a moment of joy and curiosity for all.

In connection with Tu BiShvat, the children engaged in meaningful activities that celebrated this special holiday. We created tree crowns in recognition of the significance of trees and nature. With Morah Mimi, the class explored the story of Tu BiShvat and its importance in Israel. On Thursday, in honor of the holiday, we baked and decorated cupcakes to resemble trees and joyfully sang “Happy Birthday” to many of the trees on our campus.

Throughout the week, we have been focusing on mindful movement and self-regulation. The children have been introduced to calming body exercises, including yoga and breathing techniques, to support their well-being. Additionally, movement and self-expression are encouraged through dance sessions held twice daily, providing the children with opportunities to engage their bodies in ways that feel natural and comfortable for them.

It has been a joy watching the children learn, explore, and grow. We look forward to another enriching week ahead!

Warm regards,

Miss C & Morah Mimi - 2's class

Shalom! My name is Miss C. and I am honored to join your children’s educational journey as the new teacher for our 2-year-old preschool class. With a background in Applied Behavior Analysis and early childhood education across various grade levels, I am committed to fostering independence, structure, and confidence in our students.

This week, we established a consistent schedule to help everyone—teachers and students alike—find a harmonious rhythm in our classroom. The children have adapted well to our morning routine: placing items in their cubbies, washing hands, and engaging in play before we begin our day. They’ve also mastered tidying up after snack and lunch, independently returning their food items to their lunch pails.

To promote self-sufficiency, we’ve introduced a new skill: after nap time, each child removes their bed-sheet and places it on their cot. Early risers who complete this task are encouraged to assist their classmates, and we offer verbal mitzvah praises throughout the day to those who readily help others.

We embarked on two school tours this week to practice walking in a straight line as a cohesive group. Every student used their “listening ears” and followed the teachers calmly and safely. Additionally, we crafted bird feeders with Morah MiMi so we can all feed the birds before Shabbat.  The children are eager to build, create, and understand the purpose behind our activities.

During outdoor break time, we’ve been enjoying our new favorite game, “Duck, Duck, Goose,” with a fun twist: “You can’t catch Miss C. and Miss MaryLou” Each student has shown remarkable effort in adapting to our new schedule and participating enthusiastically in all activities.

I am excited to continue sharing these experiences with you and your little ones throughout the remainder of the school year.

Warm regards,

Miss C.

Dear Parents,

This week in class, we took a deep dive into the "ha’adamah bracha," exploring the origins of vegetables and discovering that they come from the ground, not the trees.

We had a blast with our felt vegetables, singing songs, chopping up the vegetables to put in our salad. The kids indulged in a veggie tasting session, dipping cucumbers, carrots, peppers, and salad in a yummy dip. It was a hit! We went on a pretend picnic using vegetable pictures, and each child had a chance to choose what they were going to bring to our picnic. We sang a song as we went on our picnic. We also had fun organizing different brachot into groups, playing games to see who got it right. Let's not forget the much-anticipated "shehakol" bracha!

We also had important discussions about the health benefits of eating vegetables and how they give our bodies vitamins, and why it's important to thank Hashem for the delicious food we enjoy.

Please keep writing mitzvah notes. The children enjoy hearing them every day.

This is unfortunately Ms. Emily’s last week in the classroom, as she is going on her maternity leave. She would like to say that she is so proud of how far each and every student has come. She has loved teaching, loving, and getting to know every child in the class and will miss each of them, and this position, tremendously. We’ve spent the week getting our new teachers, Miss C and Miss Marylu ready to embark on their new journey in our two’s classroom. Our friends are really warming up to them and it’s such a joy watching them spread their love through the classroom. Thank you for everything.

Shabbat Shalom,

Morah Mimi and Ms. Emily

Miss Emily & Morah Mimi - 2's

This week in preschool! We’re learning tons in the classroom. We’ve been doing a lot of fine motor training by using tongs and doing beading. We’ve been playing pretend by building birthday cakes out of our pegs and peg boards. We’ve also been doing a lot of cooperative play on the swings. Friends are getting together to use their gross motor muscles to push it back and forth. Some have even discovered they can lay and move the swing with

their feet. It’s been so lovely seeing them jump to help their friends and push them while they ride the swing, a much appreciated break for the teachers!

We’ve welcomed some new staff this week. Miss C, or Brit, is officially joining our classroom and will take over for Ms. Emily when she goes on her maternity leave soon. Miss C has been  getting to know the ins and outs of the classroom, getting to know your children’s personalities and  taking over a little more with guidance and procedures. She has an amazing background in teaching children with special needs and is an amazing and loving
addition to our classroom family.
In our davening time we’ve been studying our brachot. We played games with various fruits, sorted different foods into their correct bracha groups, and went on a pretend picnic, bringing different foods with us. We also explored a picture that showed how the little seed has roots, pops through the dirt, and grows bigger over time. Our friends have been having a blast.

In circle time we’ve been spending a lot of time learning how to sit properly and participate to our full extent. Time has been allotted to make corrections to behavior and even though it’s shortening the actual circle time, these are foundations that are going to carry over through the rest of our friends’ years in preschool and elementary school. Important lessons to learn, indeed!

Until next week,
Ms. Emily and Morah Mimi

Hello everyone!

We did so many fun things this week! We started talking about brochot during our davening time. We just go over each bracha and determine what we eat when we say each one. We’ve brought out a bunch of food and dishes outside as well and some of our friends have been inquiring about which bracha we say for each food. Sometimes Ms. Emily doesn’t know so she has to ask to find out and it’s a learning experience for all!

We’ve done a lot of art this week! Loofah painting, which we’ve turned into little snowy owls. Igloo painting with white paint, using legos as our igloo bricks! We also did some colored painting and easel painting. Easel painting is great because it changes the landscape and utilizes a whole new set of muscles and creativity to create on a vertical plane. Our friends love using the medium of paint and it’s such a great opportunity to flex those creative muscles.

We’ve had a lot of sickness in our classroom this week. Please note that we are doing our best to disinfect and clean our toys and surfaces. Hand washing and practicing this process correctly has also been really important in our classroom this week. Our friends are also learning how to pinch and pull with a tissue while cleaning their own noses to help stop the spread of infection and germs. It’s quite the process but some are really getting themselves clean. Of course, we always wash our hands after!

Until next week,

Ms. Emily and Morah Mimi

Miss Emily & Morah Mimi

Dear Parents,

We  started learning about the different brachos ( blessings) we say before we eat certain foods. This week, we began learning about the blessing Borei Pri Hagafen, which we say over grape juice during Kiddush and Havdalah.

We also learned the bracha for bread, pizza, bagels and more. It is

Baruch Atah Adonai Eloheinu Melech Haolam hamotzei lechem min Haaretz.  Blessed are You, L-rd our G-d, King of the Universe, Who brings forth bread from the earth.

After reading brachos books, we enjoyed the special treat of homemade challah—yum! Next week, we’re excited to learn about the Mezonos bracha with cookies, cakes, and crackers. Can’t wait!

This week, we spoke about winter and the cold weather. We read many books about winter and built a snowman with a carrot nose, a scarf, eyes, and buttons. We also enjoyed a felt story about five little snowmen melting in the snow, helping us practice counting from 5 to 0!

Shabbat Shalom. Have a wonderful weekend!

Dear Parents,

Chanukah is in the air! This week, we've been busy with lots of fun activities to celebrate the holiday. We decorated bags for our menorahs using crayons and Chanukah stickers, which the kids really enjoyed and finished our beautiful menorahs to go home.

We also made latkes (levivot)! The kids helped grate the potatoes and we sang “5 Little Latkes Sizzling in a Pan!” Then we got to try the latkes. Some friends loved them and they were not to some of our friends taste. We baked Chanukah cookies using Chanukah-shaped cookie cutters.

After our davening circle, we sang all of our favorite Chanukah songs, like Antiochus, I Have a Little Dreidel, Where is the Oil?, and Maccabee March. It's been such a fun way to get into the Chanukah spirit.

Our friends are really into the menorahs in the classroom. They love counting the candles and identifying the shamash. We read tons of Hanukkah books. A favorite is “Hanukkah Hop.”

Wishing you all a happy Chanukah full of joy and light! Have a wonderful Winter break and enjoy some family fun time!

Shabbat Shalom,

Miss Emily & Morah Mimi - 2's

Dear Parents,

The Chanukah excitement is truly shining in our classroom. The children love listening to the story of Chanukah so much that they eagerly finish the questions I ask them.
.
Were singing songs about King Antiyochas, the search for the oil, the brave and strong Maccabees, and, of course, dreidel songs. We also play a game called: Where is the Oil? where the children search for the oil hidden behind colorful dreidels. The kids have been practicing spinning the different dreidels we have in our classroom.
Oh, Chanukah Oh, Chanukah:
Oh Chanukah, Oh, Chanukah
Come light the menorah
Lets have a party, We'll all dance the hora
Gather round the table,We'll give you a treat,
Sevivon to play with and latkes to eat And while we are playing
The candles are burning low
One for each night, they shed a sweet light To remind us of days long ago
One for each night, they shed a sweet light To remind us of days long ago!

We seem to be all about testing limits lately. This is a totally normal behavior for this age range. The important thing about this behavior is that we, as teachers, stick firm to the limit we’ve placed. We need to follow through with our expectations in order to show our friends that we mean business, so to say. It takes a lot of patience but we’re prepared to take it step by step
and take as long as we need to send this message home.
Please remember to send mitzvah notes. The children wait for theirs to be read daily.

Shabbat Shalom!

Ms. Emily & Morah Mimi

Dear parents,

We did lots of fun things this week! We’ve introduced Chanukah in the classroom. This included decorating and playing with tons of Chanukah themed toys. The children worked on dreidel marble painting, played with blue playdoh and Chanukah shape cutters, and enjoyed Chanukah puzzles.

We learned the importance of the holiday, celebrating the miraculous eight days of oil. We learned about the different customs and traditions of Chanukah. We talked about the importance of family time and games like dreidel. We sang to the music of “I Have a Little Dreidel” and “Oh Chanukah, Oh Chanukah.” We also sang the “Five Little Latkes Sizzling in a
Pan” song together, which was a highlight, and they engaged with our Chanukah puzzles in the classroom. Additionally, we have menorahs, candles, and various colored dreidels for sorting. We can't wait to hear more Chanukah stories!

In Ms. Emily’s circle we’ve got a new favorite, “Baby Beluga” by Raffi. The children request it every day and have even started to sing along. We also get the request for the “Brown Bear, Brown Bear” felt story often and “Chika Chika Boom Boom,” which is always followed by singing the “ABC’s” together. We’re getting so good at sitting for circle and davening and participating in the fun!

Have a great weekend and Shabbat shalom,
Ms. Emily and Morah Mimi

This week in preschool!

We’ve started talking about autumn and what happens during this time. We’ve done felt stories, sensory bins, and have read a ton of books about the subject. We’ve even started preparing for our Thanksgiving performance.
Here are the lyrics to the song:

“Gobble gobble Mr. Turkey, Mr. Turkey, Mr. Turkey
Gobble gobble Mr. Turkey, On Thanksgiving Day.
He waddles this way, And that way, And this way, And that way
Gobble gobble Mr. Turkey on Thanksgiving Day.”

We’ve sent home ID cards with your child’s picture on them. This is a preview of what picture will be in the yearbook. If you want to retake, makeups are coming up. You can also go on the website and order prints if you so choose.

Conferences are Monday! I look forward to speaking with everyone! The times will be prompt and you should’ve received your time reminder on your daily form earlier this week.

We finished learning about Noach and all the animals. The kids really enjoyed playing with “dirt” we made out of oobleck, and they pretended it was life on the Teiva. We also tried out “sink and float” activities to see how the Teiva stayed on top of the water. The kids picked items from the
classroom to guess if they’d sink or float, and they were so excited to find out which ones stayed up and which ones went down!

Here’s another song we’ve been singing:
“Autumn Leaves Are Falling Down” to the tune of London Bridge:
TTO: London Bridge

“Autumn leaves are falling down, Falling down, falling down,
Autumn leaves are falling down, Falling down to the ground.”

Have a Shabbat shalom,
Morah Mimi and Ms. Emily

This week in preschool!

After the high holidays we’re getting back into the swing of our routine and being at school for a full week. We played so much and had so much fun!

We went animal crazy. Every day was a new animal activity, whether it was playing with figurines or playing in a Noach themed sensory bin. We talked a lot about the story of Noach and played some fun games. We even played with a parachute one day and bounced animals around like they bounced on the water in the tayva.

For some art, we painted fall leaves to go on our bulletin board. Our friends really love to use dot art and they did such a great job trading off colors with each other.

Our friends have really been into the story “Beep, Beep, Go to Sleep” about three robots going to bed. They love to shout “Beep beep!” at the right time. It’s a really interactive book and we’ve been reading it a lot during circle time.

Until next week,

Ms. Emily and Morah Mimi
